I originally believed the materials to be fake, but the seller cleared any confusion. The hat is very soft and warm. I will be buying from this seller again. The inner lining was made of a different material than the listing (actual lining seen in the attached photo), but this does not affect the quality of the product.

The hat is gorgeous. It is so soft and warm! I can't wait for the snow to start so I can start wearing it out there. After seeing the top quality of this hat I plan on buying one of there other styles. The advice in the other comments about going up 2 sizes was correct for me.

So far I've ordered two ushankas, this one as a gift, and a Russian Police style for myself. Both I have been extremely happy with, they are so well made, just picking them up you can feel the quality of workmanship. Just as well, the insignia that gets sent with them is very good quality too. Definitely some of the best purchases I have ever made.

I purchased like 3 or 4 of these over the years as gifts. My first one was awesome, the Ushanka store has been easy to work with and reliable. I live in a pretty darn cold place - these hats are great - especially in cold wet conditions - or wet snow. The guys I gave these too - still LOVE their hats and wear them with pride - way better than the cheap ones made elsewhere!

I went with buying a size up like the reviews recommended. The ushanka fits very slightly loose but will probably be more snug once exposed to the elements. The hat is larger than expected and is of a sturdy, rugged construction, with nice leather. I am going to use it for skiing this winter and I have no doubt that it will do the task well!

I bought a size 56 because I have a 22 inch head. If your buying leather go one size up because these babies are tight. Dimitry helped me out and was so loving and accommodating of me and my issue. I love this company.

I have owned several ushanka. This one is outstanding. I have had this one for 2 winters now. Fit, finish, color, warmth, texture, and whatever metric you can measure by is excellent. This is one of those items where you ask yourself, "How did I make it through life without it?" If you bought a cheaper ushanka, and you think that all ushanka are crap, then buy this one. It will teach you how wrong you were. I have talked 2 people into purchasing, and they love them. As far as sizing, I followed their instructions exactly, and bam! Perfect! Not paid to mention how great the hat makers in Belarus are. I will be purchasing another.

I Love my black leather Naval Officer Mouton hat. It arrived in Houston two days after I ordered it. I don't get the opportunity to wear it very often in the Houston, Tx weather, but when a cold front does come through and I wear it, I get comments from people everywhere I go. I tell people it is the hat that the sub commander wore in the movie, "Hunt For Red October" and they all want to know how they can get one, too. It's a perfect fit and keeps my head very, very warm.

This is my second Ushanka hat from Ushanka.com. My other hat is the Rabbit Fur Ushanka. I can't decide which I like best. They are both fantastic hats. The workmanship is top quality, and they both feel so soft and warm. The mouton wool is soft and smooth and the rabbit fur is fluffy and soft. My head is large, 63 cm,and it is not easy finding hats that fit my large head. These hats fit perfectly. I ordered the mouton wool hat on-line on New Years Day, a holiday, and the hat still arrived just 3 days later. What great service! I live in Houston, Tx where most hats are either cowboy hats or baseball caps. I get compliments on the Ushanka hats every time I wear them. My only regret is that it does not get cold enough to wear them except for brief periods when cold fronts come through this part of Texas. Yes, I highly recommend the Ushanka.com hats for their great service and hat quality.

Just as the other reviews, order a size or 2 larger, as when the ears are down the hat is somewhat tighter. I took the advice and I'm completely satisfied. The hat is VERY good at keeping you warm. Also, the leather top is softer than it appears in the photos. This is a good thing. It's supple, yet durable. I was concerned it would be stiff and plastic feeling. I'd recommend without hesitation

I needed a warm hat for the colder months we have up here in northern England and the "Naval officer mouton ushanka - genuine leather top" does the job perfectly! I ordered the size 61 after checking the sizing information provided on this website and I can now say it was spot on, perfect fit! I purchased the naval officers' ushanka with black leather and mouton. It arrived in two days, which is extremely fast handling and shipping. I carefully measured my head several times and came up with a measurement of 24 inches, which equates to a 7 5/8 hat size. The sizing chart indicated that I should order a size 61 ushanka, but I heeded the advice of other reviewers and ordered a size 63 hat, which fits perfectly whether the ear flaps are up or down. The naval officer's leather ushanka is beautiful, and extremely well made. The leather is pliable, yet substantial and the mouton is plush and warm. The interior of the hat is comfortable feels fantastic to the point that I can't wait to find an excuse to put it on. I've had ushanka hats from other makers, and they don't compare to this hat in any way. If you are unsure as to whether your should spend $79 on the naval officers' leather ushanka, order it with confidence and wear it with pride. Just be sure to size up a cm or two.

The mouton is very soft and feels great against my face. I can't wait for winter to unleash it's wrath so I can put them to the test. The insignia look great as well and compliment the hats. I bought a mouton military ushanka for my work in the cold and often wet conditions on airports, which are wide open and very cold in Colorado winter, and it was the best piece of clothing I owned for the weather. Mine was stolen from my car, so I just now ordered an identical replacement. Worth every penny I need to give to have one of these.
