I had bought these hats before but unfortunately I lost my old one last winter so bought a replacement but I am glad because I like this color. When I wore it outside for the first time I was shocked at how warm it felt. Perhaps I had forgotten how warm the previous one was but I felt like I didn't need to wear as many layers because the hat made me feel so warm already.

The hat I received was made in Belarus, not Russia, and did not have the characteristic diamond stitching. That being said, I absolutely love it. It's well-made and quite warm. I learned that it fits perfectly if it just covers the tips of your ears and found the sizing instructions perfect. The company gave exceptional customer service and I'd happily buy from them again and, in fact, bought some really nice lambswool mittens later. I can highly recommend this hat and this company.

I just got this in the mail yesterday, and I'll tell you what: this is the most comfortable and warmest hat I own! The sheepskin is of impeccable quality. It's so soft and luxurious! The shell of the hat is wool,and is also of the highest quality! I'm totally in love with this hat, and am looking for any excuse to wear it! Pro tip: order it a few sizes larger than you normally would, so the ushanka will cover the top half of your ears. This way, unless it's way below zero, you won't even need to lower the flaps! Perfect sizing, comfortable fit very warm hat. I usually wear a stocking cap all winter indoor and out. This is comfortable enough to replace that leaving the flaps up indoor and pull them down for outdoor wear. The wool is very soft and the lining is well sewn. Overall a superior product.

Only recently did I learn that these hats are called "Ushanka" in Russia and the surrounding region. I didn't really ever stop to think about what country and what period of time they came from, I just knew I wanted one! At almost 60, I almost tripped over ushanka.com, and I'm glad I did. It's clear staying warm the old fashioned way - efficient stoves and warm clothing - is part of the heritage here. I never get cold with this hat and haven't even had a chance yet to need the flaps down. But playing with it, not only does it cover your ears but the wool or fur is designed to wrap around your neck to your beard. 40% of your body heat goes out your top, so a warm head can equal survival - or perhaps evade getting sick. The product is just part of the experience - but Dmitry provides hospitable customer service we all miss these days. Noteworthy for running a small business. I bought this hat for my son who often has to be outside during the winter months. Even though the winter, so far, has been mild here in Michigan he still loves the hat. It fit him perfect out of the package.

I once saw a photo of the Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovich in a big fuzzy ushanka. I thought, "have to get me one." I didn't want rabbit fur so went with sheepskin ushanka. Took a while to stretch it to my head size, but ushanka.com provided excellent instructions how to do it. It looks great with ear flaps up--hasn't been so cold in NYC this year--and with flaps down. My only negative is that the strings for tying the flaps down are rather thin and difficult to manage. I only wish the ties were a bit thicker, like heavy show laces rather than thin ones. Still, it's a gorgeous, well-make hat. Unfortunately, I lost the Imperial Hat Badge that came with it, but I might reorder.

Having been a mariner most of my life I ordered the naval officer Ushanka with Russian federation naval hat pin. I wear it every chance I get, a most excellent fit and look, I like it a lot. I ordered one size up, though if I ordered again I might order true size and experiment with my hat stretcher next time. If I do I'll let ya know how it goes.

Found this website looking for a good winter hat to order online, and am I glad I found this website. After being amazed by the selection, I ordered the Navy Officer Mouton Fur Hat and it was at my house in 3 days. After sticking the insignia on the front, I put it on my head and my god... was it warm. I had to take it off within a couple of minutes because I started sweating! After purchasing my Black Ushanka size 58, but only bought it during late fall weather.. and here in VA Beach having an awkward climate, the temperature is only around 80 high, 60 low during fall weather. finally when it reached November, temperatures are lowered finally able to wear the ushanka with pride! Wore it to school in the cold chilly weather, quite a few people were really surprised to see an actual Russian Ushanka. I am also attending a Russian language class in my school, and the teacher was really surprised to see an Ushanka, said its like the military officers and such. The quality is top notch, and I put it to use last night in the chilly temps of N.W. Pa.
